The Zaanse Schans is an open-air area along the river Zaan with authentic green wooden houses, working windmills and Zaan crafts, free and freely accessible 365 days a year. Dogs on a leash are welcome on the outdoor grounds, but dogs are not allowed in the museums. An entrance fee is charged for the windmills and museums.
