According to the municipality of Velsen, the beach by the north pier (Noordpier) at Velsen-Noord has three zones with different rules. The zones are shown on a small map on the signs at the beach entrances. According to the municipality's zoning map (2019), zone 1 lies near the Noordpier and the zones run north to zone 3. From 1 October to 1 April, dogs may run free on zones 1, 2 and 3. From 1 April to 1 October, dogs may run free on zone 2; on zones 1 and 3 they must then be on a leash.
