Kootwijkerduin is a fenced off-leash dog area of 56 hectares on the Veluwe. You can park at the car park on the Nieuw Milligenseweg in Kootwijk; the area is on the other side of the road. On the Veluwe, Staatsbosbeheer, the Dutch state forestry service, allows dogs off the lead in a number of areas, but only under recall: the dog stays on the path, close to its owner, and responds immediately to commands. On the neighbouring Kootwijkerzand, Staatsbosbeheer requires dogs to be kept on the lead.
